Frequently Asked Questions
In order to purchase locally grown food and access your HIP benefit, you are required to swipe your EBT Card in-person each time you pickup your order. EBT cards can not currently be processed online by small vendors, and we are limited in the number of places, days and times that we can offer an in-person payment option.
This unique workaround offered through DTA allows you to shop our online market by automatically deducting your EBT benefits and crediting your customer account with us. You can then log in to shop online and choose any of our delivery locations without the need to pay in-person.
If you would like to purchase SNAP-eligible items such as meat, dairy, or eggs that are not eligible for HIP, please select our $100 SNAP/HIP Share to increase the amount available on your account. Alternatively, you may also still choose an in-person payment location to pickup and pay for your order (along with your fruits and vegetables).
Your Hilltown Mobile Market customer account will be credited on the 1st of each month, July-November. You will be able to log in at any point that month to spend your balance at our store. Your balance will rollover if you do not spend it all, but cannot be refunded if you do not spend by the end of the season. The cost of your SNAP/HIP Share will be automatically deducted from your EBT card on the day you recieve your SNAP benefits. Your monthly HIP benefit resets on the 1st of each month, but will not be used until the day your share payment is withdrawn. To avoid payment issues, please refrain from using your HIP benefit until your share has been paid for (the same day you recieve SNAP) and make sure that you have enough on your card to cover any remaining balance due for your share. For questions, please email Seva Water, Market Coordinator at sevat@hilltowncdc.org.
HIP, the Healthy Incentives Program, instantly puts money back on your EBT card when you use it to purchase local fruits and vegetables from participating retailers. You need to have benefits left on your EBT card in order to use your HIP.
If you have SNAP you have HIP! Every SNAP participant is automatically enrolled in HIP. HIP benefits are available on the first of every month, regardless of when you recieve your SNAP benefits. HIP benefits do not roll over so be sure to use yours every month!
HIP benefits are dependent upon your household size
1-2 person household has a $40 HIP cap every month
3-5 person household has a $60 HIP cap every month
6+ household has a $80 HIP cap every month
You can purchase any fresh fruits or veggies along with fruits and veggies that are:
- Fresh
- Canned
- Dried
- Frozen
- In seed/seedling form
- Farmers’ markets (where some or all vendors may participate in HIP)
- Farm stands
- Mobile markets
- Community supported agriculture (CSA) farm share programs
Vendors are individually selected by the state and not all vendors like this will accept HIP. To find a HIP reatiler near you visit DTAFinder.com
HIP will track how much you have used each month but not what you have left, so if your HIP balance is $0 you have not used any HIP yet for the month. If you're not sure what you've used for the month you can call (800) 997-2555 (phone # on your EBT card) to find out or check your reciept from a HIP purchase to see 'HIP Earned MTD'. You can then subtract how much HIP you have used from you monthly HIP cap to figure out your remaining HIP balance.
